In 2021, it will be 10 years since the largest Rehabilitation Center for Brown Bears in Ukraine was opened in Synevyr National Nature Park. The animals that have been injured due to ill-treatment, or keeping them in inappropriate conditions, live in semi-free conditions here, on the forest area of 12 hectares.
It is no coincidence that the rehabilitation center appeared here, as the territory of the park corresponds to the natural habitat of bears in terms of landscape and climatic conditions. So now, there are 32 representatives of this species, who were previously involved in circus performances, or simply as an exotic for guests of restaurant and hotel complexes.
The rehabilitation center has its own swimming pools, dens and even special playgrounds. Also, the veterinarians create a special diet for them. All this is done to speed up the bears adaptation.
The center is open to tourists. In addition to sightseeing, you can learn the history of the “liberation” of each bear.
The Rehabilitation Center for Birds of Prey was opened in 2017 at the initiative of the park staff, and with the participation of the Ukrainian Society for the Protection of Birds. At the time of the opening, 12 falcons the poachers wanted to smuggle abroad, were sheltered here.
Falcons are most often tried to be exported from Ukraine to the Arab world. There is a special attitude to them there. These birds have long been used as hunters, and kept by monarchs and rich people. Because of this, falcons are associated with the supreme power, and are even depicted on coats of arms.
For attempts to smuggle falcons, customs officers confiscate the birds at the airports. And before letting them out, the birds are rehabilitated in the park.
